Adobe Illustrator Valentines Card Vector Tutorial2019-09-15 |
Here we have an Adobe Illustrator tutorial to help you create a custom valentines card for someone special. Add you own photos and make it personal!
To begin this tutorial we will create one half of a heart shape. Use the pen tool and curve the lines to follow the example below, try to use as few lines as possible.
Once you have created the basic shape of the half heart copy and paste it onto the art board. Now in the drop down menu go to object, transform, reflect and reflect it 90 degrees vectically.
Now that you have both sides of the heart shape place them next to one another, now using the pathfinder blend them into one. For the color you will now use the gradient tool, use a radial gradient of light to dark pink and give the spape and minor gradient. Us the example below for a similary result. Finsh the heart with a 1px white stoke to make it visible in the next step.
For this step will use out heart shape to create the background for the valentines card design. Copy and paste the heart shape and paste it behind the original, move the heart in what ever direction you feel would be best, repeat this step until the shape covers the canvas. Once the canvas is filled create a rectangular shape equal to the width and height of the artboard. Select all shapes on the artboard and hit cmd 7, this will create a path for the heart shapes to sit inside.
For this step we will create the happy valentines text that will feature on the design. First create a rectangular shape (same as before) the height and width of the artboard. Give this shape a black fill and drop the opacity to around 30 or 40 percent. Now you will have an overlay that will be appropriate for the text to sit on top of. Now choose the font you wish to use and type your greeting message. Using the pen or paint tool you can add accents to the text to create a more fluid composition.
For step six we will insert our personalised photographs that we wish to include in our design. Find the images that you wish to use and paste/import them onto the artboard. Now that you have your photos create a circular shape and place it above one of you images. Now similar to before use select both the circle and the photograph and hit cmd 7, now your image will be within a circular path.
Now that you have your circular photos you will want to create a border to seperate them from the background. Draw another circle, slightly larger than the photos and paste it behind them. Position the circle to center the photos and group the photo and circle. Repeat this step for all photographs. To finish off scale and rotate the objects as you see fit to create an interesting composition, finally apply a drop shadow to them similar to the example below.
The Finished Product
There you have it! Your personalised valentines day card, you can modify the example is several ways, perhaps using the hearts in other custom valentines designs or modifying the text further? Either way we hope you can use this tutorial to learn and explore new options in your future designs.
