Vector Glasses Illustrator Tutorial2019-09-15 |
Learn the process in which was used to create this illustration of a realistic pair of glasses using Adobe Illustrator.
Begin by creating the basic shape of the frame for the glass, give the shape a stroke and colour it black
The second step is to create a more realistic shine, on the stroke create a linear gradient similar to the image illustrated using light, mid and dark grey/black.
Again using the pen tool draw the hinge of the glasses and give it a similar linear gradient.
Draw the centre top piece of the frame and giving it a gradient, make the gradient mostly dark with a light tint in the centre.
Similarly the bridge can be done the same way but using much lighter shades in the gradient to create a thin metallic look.
The frame handles can be tricky to draw but the key is to create a smooth transition on the bend. Use the pen tool and try to replicate the shape above as close as possible. Finally for this, create a dark gradient with a light tip at the very end.
Now position the handle near on the frame of the hinge.
For the glass, firstly copy the original frame created and paste it on top, remove the stroke and replace it with a fill. The fill should be a linear gradient with 4 or 5 light and dark variations, give the gradients a lower opacity of around 50% so that the background will be visible behind them, this will create the glass effect.
For the nose pads create a thin oval shape and give it a radial gradient with the centre being the lighter shade, then put the opacity down to around 50% to create the see through effect. Finally copy and paste the nose pad in front of the original and centralise it.
Position the nose pad in place behind the glass and frame. Once positioned, add accents to the glass, create two or three shapes with the pen tool and give them a white background. Using the feather effect blend the shape into the glass background, you can also add opacity to fade it further.
For the final step we will create the shadow, this is extremely important for the realistic effect. Copy and paste your entire illustration so far and place it away from the original and delete the glass shapes. Once done select all shapes and give them a black inner colour, you may have to do them seperately. Once they are blacked out use the gaussian blur filter, following this drop the opacity to between 50% and 70% to get your desired effect.
